Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis received his Austrian counterpart Alexander Schallenberg in the Federal Palace on Tuesday. Among other things, security policy issues and neutrality were on the agenda during the official visit.
Speaking to the media, Cassis described the cooperation between the two countries as solid and dynamic. In addition to a one-on-one meeting, a visit to the Swiss Armed Forces' new Cyber Command was also planned, as announced by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in advance.
The two neutral countries are participating in the "Sky Shield" air defense initiative launched by NATO member state Germany in 2023. This initiative focuses in particular on joint procurement, training and information exchange.
During Federal President Viola Amherd's visit to Vienna at the beginning of April, Austria's President Alexander Van der Bellen described it as a "stroke of luck" that the countries could cooperate in the military sector.
