The energy company Axpo has opened the largest Swiss plant for "green hydrogen" in Domat/Ems GR. It produces up to 350 tons of hydrogen per year and uses electricity from the Reichenau hydropower plant.
The plant could save 1.5 million liters of diesel fuel per year, the energy company wrote in a press release on Friday. This makes it the largest plant in Switzerland for the production of CO2-neutral hydrogen.
With its direct connection to a river hydropower plant, the plant produces climate-neutral hydrogen and is therefore a pioneering project. According to the press release, the hydrogen is compressed directly on site so that it can be easily delivered to filling stations and industrial customers in the future.
