Robert Plant, Seal, St. Vincent and ESC star Nemo are among the big names at this year's Baloise Session in Basel. The festival management announced the program for the ten concert evenings to the media on Wednesday.
The 76-year-old Plant, once lead singer of the legendary rock group Led Zeppelin, wants to record and recycle his concert in Basel, as festival CEO Beatrice Stirnimann said. The Brit will be on stage with his band Saving Grace feat. Suzi Dian on the same evening as country musician Marty Stuart.
Stirnimann is particularly pleased that Nemo is on board after winning this year's ESC with "The Code". "When we heard the song for the first time, we thought: This song belongs on our stage".
The British soul singer Seal can be heard on two evenings, once with Sophie Ellis-Bextor ("Murder on the Dancefloor") and once with the young Australian talent Jacoténe. The American multi-instrumentalist St. Vincent will be on stage on the same evening as guitarist Gary Clark Jr.
Marc Sway kicks things off
The first concert evening of the Baloise Session will feature Take That, who were known as a boy band in the nineties. They will be preceded by Swiss musician Marc Sway, who was present with his guitar at the program presentation. "The fact that I can play at the Baloise Session fills me with great humility and gratitude," said Sway.
The program also includes Natalie Imbruglia, known for her 1997 hit "Torn", the British-Lebanese singer Mika, former Reamonn frontman Rea Garvey and Ray Dalton, the gospel voice in Macklemore's hit "Can't Hold Us". Also on the program are singer-songwriter Teddy Swims and Spanish-language pop with Álvaro Soler and Loco Escrito. Jacob Collier and Tony Ann will close the festival.
The Baloise Session will take place from October 17 to November 8 in the event hall of Messe Basel.
