Barracks in Chur temporarily become asylum accommodation

From the beginning of November, the barracks of the Chur Waffenplatz will be made available for asylum seekers for six weeks. There will be temporary space for 300 people. The army will remain present on the site in parallel to its use as asylum accommodation.
Because the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) expects an above-average number of asylum applications in the current year, additional accommodation is being sought on an ongoing basis, according to a statement issued by the SEM on Thursday.
At the end of September, the army had agreed to make up to 3,700 places temporarily available throughout Switzerland until the end of 2024. In addition, the military cedes suitable accommodation for several weeks, as in Chur, if there is no own demand.
