A large-scale search for two children from the town of Schaffhausen has been successful. A 7-year-old boy and his 4-year-old sister escaped late on Wednesday afternoon. The police then discovered them in Allschwil BL in the evening.

The two children had sneaked out of the apartment unnoticed while their father was cooking. As a result, a major search operation was launched involving the transport police and the Zurich cantonal police, as the Schaffhausen police announced on Thursday. Other police authorities were also informed.

A patrol discovered the siblings on a street in Allschwil at 10.15 pm. As it turned out, the two had made their way to their mother, who lives in Germany.

It is not yet clear exactly how the two got to Allschwil. What is certain, however, is that they took a bus to the train station in Schaffhausen and boarded a train to Zurich. There they changed trains and took the train to Basel, as a media spokesperson for the Schaffhausen police told the Keystone-SDA news agency.
