Matthias Remund, Director of the Federal Office of Sport (FOSPO), has announced his retirement at the end of October this year. From January 2025, the 61-year-old will become the new CEO and Secretary General of the International University Sports Federation (Fisu).

In his 19 years as director, Remund has made a significant contribution to the development of Swiss sports promotion, Baspo announced on Monday. In his new position at Fisu, the former elite cross-country runner will take over the management of a globally active organization for the promotion of student sport. Among other things, Fisu is the organizer of the Universiade World University Games, which take place every two years.

An action plan adopted by the Federal Council in 2016 was central to the development of Swiss sports promotion under Remund. This contained concrete expansion steps for the further development of Swiss sports promotion in popular and competitive sport. Remund's term of office also saw the establishment of the Antidoping Switzerland Foundation and its subsequent transformation into the Swiss Sport Integrity Foundation. The latter also acts as an independent reporting office for ethics violations in Swiss sport.
