When announcing the health insurance premiums for 2025, Health Minister Elisabeth Baume-Schneider emphasized that Switzerland has a very good healthcare system. "And a good system has its price." However, she was convinced "that it is possible to reduce costs without compromising quality".

All stakeholders must now contribute to keeping this system affordable and reducing costs. Baume-Schneider made this demand to the media in Bern on Thursday. She referred to ongoing political measures and made it clear: "Parliament has the power to curb costs."

The Minister of Health cited the second cost containment package currently being discussed in Parliament as an example. The first measures from this package already came into force in 2023 and 2024. The second part now includes measures such as volume discounts for medicines that generate a lot of turnover. Furthermore, the strengthening of coordinated healthcare. The federal government expects potential savings of up to half a billion francs per year.
