Health Minister Elisabeth Baume-Schneider does not want to restrict the benefits catalog for basic insurance. "The catalog is not the problem." Rather, the negative incentives and duplication in the healthcare system need to be addressed.

The uniform financing of healthcare costs (Efas) is an important step, Baume-Schneider told the media in Bern on Thursday. The bill passed by parliament will be put to the people at the end of November. "We will not achieve a reduction in healthcare costs, but we will curb the increase."

Baume-Schneider went on to say that the administrative costs in the system should also be discussed. However, she did not want to pre-empt the round table. Communication will take place after the talks.

When asked about the division of tasks with the cantons, Baume-Schneider said that cooperation was "good and open". More responsibility for the federal government is not the solution. "If all 27 pilots pursue the same goal, we are stronger."

Each canton has its own reality and can act accordingly. "The system is not that bad."
