The big Wey parade made its loud and colorful way through the city of Lucerne on Monday afternoon from 2 pm. Officially, 44 numbers took part in the second big Lucerne Carnival parade, with "wild" numbers also smuggling themselves into the procession.

The procession was led by the Wey guild master in a carriage, followed by the large Wey frog with crown, the heraldic animal of the Wey guild. The parade route led from the Luzernerhof across the Seebrücke to the Neustadt. Swiss television broadcast the Güdismontag parade, with several thousand spectators watching the spectacle live on location.

The Wey parade is always a repeat of the Dirty Thursday parade. This came about because in 1925, instead of the usual carnival procession, only the Fritschi guild float made its way through the streets.

Some tradespeople from the Wey district decided to get active themselves. Within four days, they put together a parade and marched through the town on Güdismontag. They were so successful that the group, initially known as "Zunft Wey", decided to organize a parade on Güdismontag in 1926 as well. Since then, the two parades have become a tradition in Lucerne.

Güdismontag in the city of Lucerne began at 6 a.m. with the Wey guild's daily vigil, which was attended by 5,000 people. According to the Lucerne police, the atmosphere was peaceful and exuberant. The Lucerne carnival comes to an end on the night of Ash Wednesday.
