A 45-year-old Swiss man was caught attempting to smuggle around 20 kilograms of meat from France into Switzerland at the border crossing in Vallorbe VD on the same day. On the first attempt, the meat was hidden under the seats of his car, and on the second attempt, it was hidden under the hood. Customs officers from the Federal Customs and Border Protection Agency (BAZG) stopped the man's car upon entry into Switzerland and asked if he had any goods to declare, to which he replied no. Despite this, the officers conducted a search of the car and found the meat, which was covered with a blanket and hidden under the seats. The man was fined for not declaring the goods, but chose not to pay the customs fees and instead re-imported the meat back to France. Later that evening, the man was arrested again when crossing the same border, as the officers wanted to make sure he was not carrying any undeclared goods. Upon lifting the hood of the car, they discovered that he was still in possession of the same meat packages they had found during his first attempt. The man was fined again and the goods were confiscated until the customs fees were paid.
