Both St. Gallen Cantonal Councils Elected in the First Round of Voting

Benedikt Würth and Esther Friedli have been elected to the St. Gallen Council of States in the first round of voting. They have a huge lead over their competitors.

Würth, a member of the Swiss People's Party, and Friedli, a member of the Swiss Social Democratic Party, were the clear frontrunners in the election. Würth received the most votes with a total of 43,845, while Friedli received the second highest number of votes with a total of 33,845. The other candidates, including the incumbent, received significantly fewer votes.

The election was held on October 18th, 2020 and was the first round of voting for the St. Gallen Council of States. The Council of States is the upper house of the Swiss Federal Assembly and is composed of 46 members. The members are elected by the citizens of each canton and serve for four-year terms.

The election of Würth and Friedli marks a significant shift in the political landscape of St. Gallen. Würth and Friedli will be the first representatives of their respective parties to serve on the Council of States. This is a major victory for both parties and a sign of the changing political landscape in Switzerland.
