The Swiss Federal Councilor Guy Parmelin delivered his 1 August speech in Cully VD, highlighting the various challenges that Switzerland faces and the need for visionary and courageous solutions. He noted that the Swiss Constitution, which has been revised three times since 1848, has created the first stable democracy in Europe. He expressed his appreciation for living in a country that is committed to respecting fundamental rights, fairness and equal opportunities, and is open to the world. Parmelin acknowledged the global uncertainty caused by environmental, energy and geopolitical crises, and the difficulty of finding majorities in the face of non-transparent international interests and growing resistance. He stressed that giving up is not an option and that determination and optimism can move the world forward more than inertia and laissez-faire. He expressed his confidence in the Swiss population's desire to move forward, which he sees as a source of great hope for the future and the difficult decisions it imposes.nn
