Canadian film honored at GIFF

On Saturday evening, the Geneva International Film Festival (GIFF) awarded the Reflet d'Or for the best feature film to the Canadian production "Une langue universelle" by Matthew Rankin. The festival ends on Sunday.
"Une langue universelle" tells the story of a man who returns to his hometown of Winnipeg to visit his mother. But Canada has now become Persian-speaking. The film is a beautiful homage to Iranian cinema, between the exploration of memory and chance encounters, the GIFF announced on Saturday evening.
The Reflet d'Or for best series went to the Danish production "Bullshit" by Milad Alami, Bo Hr. Hansen and Molly Malene Stensgaard. French director Gwenael François also received an award for his film "Oto's Planet". The "Future is sensitive" award went to the Greek Alexandros Avranas for "Quiet Life". The Belgian-Swiss series "Les Indociles" won the first edition of the "Swiss Series Storytelling Awards".
The GIFF was delighted that many screenings were sold out. The number of visitors from the young audience had also increased. However, the total number of visitors will not be announced until later. The 31st edition of the festival will take place from October 31 to November 9, 2025.
