Cars jam up in front of the Gotthard north portal

Car traffic to the south came to a standstill on Saturday in front of the Gotthard road tunnel in Göschenen UR. The traffic jam grew continuously in the morning and reached a length of ten kilometers after 11:15 am.
Drivers had to accept a waiting time of one hour and 40 minutes before they could enter the 17-kilometer road tunnel and drive into Ticino, as the TCS announced on the short message service X.
The entrances to Göschenen and Wassen have been closed by the Uri cantonal police to prevent drivers from driving around the traffic jam on the cantonal road.
