Travelers heading south through Switzerland were also held up in front of the Gotthard road tunnel on the A2 on Pentecost Sunday. A queue of cars formed in front of the north portal in Göschenen UR at around 08:00.

After just under an hour, the traffic jam between Wassen UR and Göschenen had already grown to three kilometers due to congestion, as the Touring Club of Switzerland (TCS) announced on the short message service X. The time lost for drivers at this point was around half an hour.

Yesterday, Pentecost Saturday, travelers heading south had to wait up to three and a half hours in some cases to get through the 17-kilometre tunnel into Ticino.
