CH Wolf calls for all wolf packs to be protected from shooting

All wolf packs in several cantons should be protected from being shot, not just those that have so far been temporarily protected by court order on the initiative of environmental protection organizations. This is the demand of the wolf protection organization CH Wolf, which has filed a complaint with the Federal Administrative Court.
These complaints are directed "against the approval for the proactive regulation of entire wolf packs" in the cantons of Graubünden, St. Gallen and Valais, which the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) granted on November 27, as CH Wolf wrote in a press release on Friday evening. The consent decrees are therefore in breach of convention and federal law provisions.
According to the organization, the approved shootings aim to "largely eradicate" the wolf packs in Switzerland. This violates the Bern Convention, which places the wolf under strict protection as an endangered species. The killings authorized by the cantons were "unlawful".
"With our complaints, we are seeking a fundamental clarification of the legality of the shootings that have taken place and also hope for an immediate stop to the shootings of packs where other environmental protection organizations have not filed complaints," writes the wolf protection organization.
After environmental protection organizations had obtained a suspensive effect from the Federal Administrative Court against the FOEN's regulation at the end of November, the FOEN and the affected cantons applied for the suspensive effect to be lifted.
However, after a "summary examination and after weighing up the various interests", the Federal Administrative Court came to the conclusion that the interest in maintaining the suspensive effect prevailed.
