Walter Thurnherr, the 60-year-old Swiss Federal Councilor and head of the influential Federal Chancellery, announced his resignation after eight years in office. He made the announcement at the first Federal Council meeting after the summer break. Thurnherr is known for his eloquent speeches and has been involved in the handling of the Corona crisis, the digitalisation of the federal administration and the dossier of electronic voting. His successor will be determined on 13 December, the same day as the general renewal election of the Federal Council. This is also when the successor of SP Federal Councilor Alain Berset, who announced his resignation in June, will be chosen.nnnnnnnnnn
