Changeable weather clouds the TCS campsite balance sheet

The Touring Club of Switzerland recorded around 900,000 overnight stays in the summer season ending at the end of October. This means that Switzerland's largest camping provider, according to its own figures, recorded a slight decline compared to the previous year.
The Touring Club of Switzerland (TCS) attributes the drop of around four percent to the changeable weather this summer. This was announced on Wednesday. However, the TCS was able to increase the number of camping members compared to 2023, namely by 3.3 percent to over 27,000.
The TCS now has more than 30 campsites - this year, sites in Estavayer-le-Lac FR and Olivone TI were added. The municipality of Estavayer has transferred the operation of the site there to the Touring Club. However, TCS closed the site near Gampelen BE on Lake Neuchâtel permanently at the beginning of October.
The reason for this is the fact that the square is located in an environmental protection area. In 2023, the Federal Commission for the Protection of Nature and Cultural Heritage (ENHK) confirmed an earlier expert opinion and described the square as contrary to environmental law.
In the coming years, however, TCS will expand the La Tène site it took over in 2023. It is located just a few kilometers to the west of Gampelen in the canton of Neuchâtel. However, this expansion is not a direct consequence of the closure of Gampelen, said TCS media spokeswoman Vanessa Flack on request.
