The Chicorée clothing chain once again sold more in 2023 and increased the number of stores. The Group's total turnover rose by 3 percent to 189 million francs.
Despite sluggish consumer spending and inflation, the Chicorée Group achieved another record result, the fashion chain announced on Thursday night. New stores also contributed to the growth: with the opening of four new locations, the group now has 180 stores in all parts of Switzerland and employs over 900 people.
Last year was characterized by a delayed start to the season, Chicorée CEO Thomas Ullmann is quoted as saying in the press release. As a result, the summer collection only sold particularly well during the months of June and July. After a difficult start to the fall, Christmas business was again pleasing.
According to the press release, city center locations came under pressure in 2023. Conversely, agglomerations and specialist retail locations saw growth. The highest sales per square metre and growth figures were once again achieved at railroad stations, according to the press release.
In the current year, the Group expects consumer sentiment to remain subdued and inflation to remain moderate. However, the Group has also set its sights on further growth in 2024. According to the press release, five to ten new locations are planned. Expansion is to continue, particularly in the French-speaking part of Switzerland and Ticino.
The fashion chain also wants to focus on expanding its customer program and online business. The online store is to be expanded to include the majority of the product range. Services such as "Click&Collect" are also planned, where products can be reserved online and paid for and collected in-store.
