Child run over and killed by truck in Basel

A child was run over and killed by a truck in Basel on Thursday. The child was crossing a pedestrian crossing and was hit by the truck, according to the cantonal police.
This fatal accident happened shortly after 12 noon on Hüningerstrasse in the St. Johann district. The child died of his injuries at the scene of the accident. The police are looking for witnesses who can provide information about the course of the accident.
The accident was being investigated in the afternoon. Both Hüningerstrasse and Elsässerstrasse were closed to car and streetcar traffic, according to the press release.
