Saudi Arabia does not want to take part in the planned Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland. The German Press Agency learned this from diplomatic circles in Riyadh on Sunday. The reason for the government's decision in Riyadh is that Russia will not be attending the summit on June 15 and 16. There was initially no official confirmation of the move.

According to diplomatic circles, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi was actually expected in Saudi Arabia on Saturday to lobby for support at the Swiss peace summit. In the port city of Jeddah, he was to meet with the Crown Prince and de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, among others. However, according to diplomatic sources, Zelensky's visit has now been postponed until after the peace summit.

At Ukraine's request, Switzerland is organizing the meeting on 15 and 16 June on the Bürgenstock near Lucerne. The summit is intended to mobilize more international support for the country attacked by Russia. Saudi Arabia has so far tried to adopt as neutral a stance as possible in the war. The kingdom counts the USA among its most important allies, but at the same time maintains good relations with Russia. Saudi Arabia has also offered to act as a mediator on several occasions.
