Climber at Matterhorn Killed in Fall

On Thursday afternoon, a mountaineer tragically fell to his death while descending from the Matterhorn. The formal identification of the victim was still underway on Friday. The incident occurred at 11.45am when the climber was descending from the Matterhorn with two other alpinists via the South West Ridge. For unknown reasons, the climber fell from a height of 3700 metres and plummeted 600 metres down the northern face of the mountain. The Cantonal Police of Wallis and the State Prosecutor have launched an investigation into the incident.
