The first 29 nominations for the European Film Awards have been announced. Among them is a co-production in which Switzerland is involved. The awards will be presented for the first time in Switzerland on December 7.
"The Shameless" by Bulgarian director Konstantin Bojanov is the only film among the 29 nominations for a European Film Award in which Switzerland is involved. The film is a thriller about two young prostitutes in India.
Basel-born Gabriel Lobos was responsible for the camera on the Kathmandu shoot. Most recently, he was involved in the Swiss documentary "Rotzloch" (2022) by Maja Tschumi. "The Shameless" is a co-production between Switzerland, France, Bulgaria, Taiwan and India. It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last May. It is due to be released in cinemas in German-speaking Switzerland next February.
Among the nominated films announced by the organizers of the European Film Awards on Wednesday are the Italian film "Morgen ist auch noch ein Tag" directed by Paola Cortellesi and the German film "Sterben" starring Corinna Harfouch and Lars Eidinger. French filmmaking is particularly well represented with three of its own films, including "Le Comte de Monte-Cristo", as well as ten other co-productions.
Further films for the European Film Awards will be announced in September. Works by European directors that premiered between June 2023 and May 2024 are eligible. A total of 26 European countries are represented. The prizes are awarded by the 5000 members of the European Film Academy in eight categories.
This year, the awards ceremony will take place in Switzerland for the first time, on December 7 at the Culture and Convention Center (KKL) in Lucerne. The European Film Awards have been presented by the European Film Academy, based in Berlin, since 1988. The event takes place there every two years. In other years, it is the turn of other cities throughout Europe.
