A 46-year-old Swiss man died at the scene of a head-on collision between two motorcyclists near St-Cergue VD on Saturday afternoon. The second rider was seriously injured and flown by helicopter to Geneva University Hospital.

The head-on collision occurred during an overtaking maneuver by the surviving driver, according to the Vaud cantonal police on Sunday morning.

The road between Trélex VD and St-Cergue was closed in both directions for several hours due to the accident so that the emergency services could intervene and the cause of the accident could be determined, as was reported on Sunday.

The public prosecutor's office has opened a criminal investigation. The traffic unit of the Vaud police has been tasked with the investigation to determine the exact causes and circumstances of the accident.
