"Le Temps" and "La Liberté" write about the negotiations with the EU in their editions on Saturday:
"This December 20 is a day to celebrate, whatever one may say about this agreement," writes Le Temps. The battle will be fought later," says the newspaper, which recalls Switzerland's "deep" ties with Europe and its "fundamental" access to the Swiss market. The daily also believes that the division of the negotiated package is "clever" in order to increase the chances of the whole thing being ratified one day. "This debate has only just begun".
La Liberté also emphasizes how much Switzerland needs Europe. As an example, the Fribourg daily cites the principle of the free movement of persons, which is "tailored to Switzerland" and provides Switzerland with an "indispensable" workforce.
Access to European education, research and innovation programs is also "vital" for Swiss universities. The newspaper is proud of Switzerland's importance for Brussels: "The EU, however big it may be, cannot do without us," the article states.
