The National Council Commission is calling for a declaration requirement for imported unprocessed food products. This is to improve information for consumers and is considered to be a reasonable administrative burden. The Commission for Science, Education and Culture of the National Council (WBK-N) will send a draft for the corresponding revision of the Food Act to the consultation in September. The draft requires that the mode of transport for unprocessed foods such as meat, fish, vegetables or fruits must be indicated. The declaration should also include transport by air. In addition to consumer information, the proposal should also provide more transparency, especially with regard to origin. A minority of the Commission feared additional costs due to the declaration. In addition, the declaration requirement could not be compatible with trade law obligations under the World Trade Organization WTO. Furthermore, the minority questioned the ecological benefit. In summary, the National Council Commission is proposing a declaration requirement for imported unprocessed food products in order to improve information for consumers and provide more transparency with regard to origin. This is considered to be a reasonable administrative burden, although a minority of the Commission fears additional costs and questions the ecological benefit.nnnnnnnnnn
