Commission wants Council decision on accession to European Sky Shield

Parliament is to decide whether Switzerland should join the "European Sky Shield Initiative". The responsible National Council committee wants to push this through with a motion. A narrow majority of the committee is in favor of joining.
In a consultative vote, the National Council's Security Policy Committee (SIK-N) voted in favor of accession by 12 votes to 11, with 1 abstention, as reported by the parliamentary services on Tuesday. The majority view accession as compatible with neutrality.
The minority, on the other hand, is opposed to joining the European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI). This goes beyond the coordination of procurement projects and ultimately aims to create a European air defense shield. In their eyes, this would not be compatible with neutrality.
