Completion of Evacuation and Recovery Work in the Gotthard Base Tunnel

On August 10th, a goods train derailed in the Gotthard Base Tunnel, causing extensive damage. After anderthalb months, the clean-up and recovery operations have been completed. All 30 wagons have been removed from the tunnel and all goods and damaged equipment have been cleared from the 8km accident site. The detailed damage assessment and planning of the restoration work will take place until mid-October and the restoration work will take several months. Since 23rd August, goods traffic has been running again through the undamaged east tube.
