Contaminated Drinking Water in Two Districts of Bellinzona TI

On Saturday morning, two districts of Bellinzona TI, Moleno and Preonzo, were affected by a temporary water contamination, as announced by Alertswiss. The Bellinzona Multiservice Company reported that the water supplied to these districts was not safe for drinking. People were advised not to drink the tap water and not to use it for preparing cold food and drinks, unless it was boiled for at least five minutes. This issue had already been reported at the end of September.
Heavy rainfall had been recorded in the south of Switzerland since Thursday evening, with over 200 millimetres of rain per square metre falling on the Bernina-Hospiz, 164 millimetres in Airolo TI and 178 millimetres in Vicosoprano GR in the Bergell. This could have been the cause of the water contamination in Bellinzona TI.
