Council of States calls for adjustment of protection status S

For the Council of States, Switzerland must adjust protection status S. For example, anyone who leaves the country for a certain period of time, such as two weeks, should no longer be able to benefit from it.
Even those who have claimed return assistance or have already benefited from this status in another country in the Dublin area should no longer receive it. This is stated in a motion by Benedikt Würth, a member of the St. Gallen Council of States, which was clearly adopted by the Council of States on Wednesday. It still has to go to the National Council.
Würth argued that the acceptance of S protection status is decreasing in Switzerland. It is currently possible for people to waive protection status S, receive return assistance and re-enter the country after a few weeks. They then receive this status again. This "tourism" cannot be accepted.
In September 2022, the two councils had still spoken out against making access to the status more difficult.
