Council of States committee postpones financing of the 13th AHV pension

The 13th AHV pension is to be paid out from December 2026. The responsible Council of States committee agrees with the Federal Council's proposal. However, it does not want to regulate the financing of the "thirteenth" now and wants to wait for the major AHV reform.
The Social and Health Committee of the Council of States (SGK-S) has agreed to the proposals to reduce the federal contribution to the cantons and to increase VAT by 0.7 percentage points, as the parliamentary services announced on Wednesday. However, before a final decision is made, parliament should take the time for a serious and documented analysis of the various financing options.
According to the SGK-S, the next comprehensive AHV reform, which is expected by 2026 at the latest, should also be taken into account. "In order to find a comprehensive, balanced and sustainable solution, particular account must be taken of the numerous challenges that will arise in the area of social insurance in the coming years."
