Members of the Federal Parliament do not have to provide additional information on the amount of their additional income. The Council of States rejected a parliamentary initiative to disclose income ranges on Tuesday. The matter is off the table.

The small chamber rejected the request by 22 votes to 18 with one abstention. The request had been submitted by former member of the Geneva Council of States Lisa Mazzone (Greens).

The initiative demanded that councillors declare how long they have held a secondary occupation and whether and how much compensation they receive for it. This should have been done as part of the declaration of an income range.

The State Policy Committees (SPK) of both Councils rejected the initiative in advance. Today, members of the Council must declare any secondary employment and state whether it is paid or unpaid. The majority of the SPK-S did not want to extend this disclosure requirement. One of the reasons for this was that the majority of council mandates are not exercised on a full-time basis.
