Council of States in favor of easing administrative burdens for farmers

Like the National Council, the Council of States also wants to ease the administrative burden on agriculture. On Monday, it approved a motion by National Councillor Leo Müller (center/LU) without opposition, but extended the deadline until the end of 2030. The National Council had approved a deadline until the end of 2027.
With this amendment, the motion returns to the National Council. On behalf of the committee, Werner Salzmann (SVP/BE) explained that the concerns could not be fulfilled within the set deadline. In agriculture, many regulations and a lot of paperwork could be abolished. The federal government should also slow down the pace of legislation.
Federal Councillor and Agriculture Minister Guy Parmelin assured that reducing the administrative burden on agriculture would be an issue in the new agricultural policy. Regulations could also be abolished due to digitalization. He also promised to reduce the pace of regulations.
The state government will tackle all of this in the Agricultural Policy 2030+. It would implement certain simplifications before then. However, no major simplifications are possible within the planned timeframe, as the removal of regulations and other administrative relief would require parliamentary decisions in many cases.
