Respiratory infections have increased in Switzerland over the past week. While cases of influenza stagnated compared to the previous week, the number of consultations with suspected Covid cases increased, according to the information portal of the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH).
Outpatient consultations due to an acute respiratory infection show an upward trend compared to the previous two weeks. According to the FOPH, SARS-CoV-2 is currently the most frequently detected virus in these cases, followed by rhinoviruses and other respiratory viruses.
As part of genomic monitoring, XBB subvariants are most frequently detected in hospitalized Covid-19 patients.
Last week, the number of outpatient consultations with suspected Covid-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants was 136 across Switzerland. This figure was highest in Graubünden and Ticino at 365 per 100,000 inhabitants, and lowest in the cantons of Lucerne, Nidwalden and Obwalden, Schwyz, Uri and Zug at just under 8 per 100,000 inhabitants.
In contrast, the consultation rate for influenza-like illnesses remained stable compared to the previous week. In recent weeks, there had been an increase in reports of laboratory-positive flu cases.
