Craftspeople in Switzerland expect 2024 to be a good year, with the biggest challenge in the industry being the shortage of skilled workers. This is the conclusion of a survey published on Tuesday by Buildigo, Mobiliar's craftsmen's network.

After a successful 2023 financial year, over a third (35%) of the trade businesses surveyed expect business to improve in the current year. 60% expect demand to remain stable, while only 5% fear a slowdown.

The struggle for orders is increasing. According to 54% of respondents, they are experiencing increased competition. Prices are being squeezed primarily by competitors with aggressive pricing strategies and increasingly price-sensitive customers.

Finally, more than one in two companies (55%) see the recruitment of new staff as the biggest challenge. According to the survey authors, this illustrates the impact of the shortage of skilled workers.

The "Industry Barometer Crafts" is based on a survey of over 200 companies. Two thirds of the companies surveyed are SMEs with up to 10 employees, which according to the data reflects the industry.
