The further deterioration in the economy also had a negative impact on new car registrations in October. Almost one in four new vehicles is now an e-car.
A total of 20,355 cars were put on the road for the first time in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein in October. Compared to the weak month of the previous year, this is an increase of 18.4 percent. However, the gap to the pre-Corona values is still almost a quarter, as the import association Auto-Switzerland announced on Thursday evening. In particular, the further deteriorating outlook for economic development would have had a negative impact on demand for new vehicles.
By contrast, demand for cars with alternative drive systems developed well. The share of hybrid, electric and hydrogen vehicles was above the 60 percent mark for the second month in a row. In contrast, diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles recorded a month-on-month decline in new registrations of 5.6 and 7.9 percent, respectively.
Purely electric cars accounted for around 22 percent of enrollments. For the year as a whole, the share of electric cars and plug-in hybrids thus rose to 29 percent, compared with just over 23 percent in the prior-year period.
