The Ständeratswahlen elections in the canton of Bern have been decided. Bernhard Pulver (Green Party) has decided to forgo the second round of voting, as announced on Monday. This clears the way for the silent election of Werner Salzmann (Swiss People's Party) and Flavia Wasserfallen (Social Democratic Party). The two candidates will now take their seats in the Swiss Council of States, the upper house of the Swiss Federal Assembly. This marks the first time in the canton's history that two candidates from different parties have been elected to the Council of States. The election of Salzmann and Wasserfallen is a sign of the canton's commitment to political diversity and compromise.
