Several thousand people gathered in the city of Zurich early on Friday evening for the feminist strike day: They set off shortly after 5.30 p.m. for the big demonstration with a loud cry against violence against women.
It was "not a radical demand in this case", the posters said. They just wanted equality, not power, said others. Patriarchy is just "utter shit", one girl wrote on a cardboard. There were also many posters with the words "Resistance instead of burnout".
With the feminist strike day, Flinta people - women, lesbians, inter*, non-binary, trans* and agender people - would fight against war, crisis and patriarchy, the organizers announced. "The current crises are not gender-neutral - Flinta people often bear the greatest burden," they said.
The authorized demonstration was held under the motto "Becauce like care!". In solidarity with people affected by the war in Flint, the demonstration participants also observed a minute's silence while seated during their procession.
Before the procession with the scream, the feminist strike collective had invited several speakers to the microphone on Bürkliplatz: Representatives from the Sex Worker Collective, Care Block, the Kurdish women's association Beritan, the women's project Refugee Power Ladies and Ni Una Menos spoke to those present. They wanted to fight "for a safe life" and take action against the male perpetrators.
Even if some of the speeches were not comprehensible to everyone for linguistic or acoustic reasons, everyone was thanked with great applause. The crowd then made its way along Limmatquai and Paradeplatz to Helvetiaplatz.
