Switching to a cheaper health insurance company or choosing a different model could save relatively large amounts of money. Despite this, only five percent of respondents to a recent survey have switched insurers. This year, too, only a few insured persons are interested in switching.

If insured persons switch to the cheapest provider and choose the most favorable insurance model, they can save dozens, if not hundreds of francs every month.

Nevertheless, only a few insured persons actually switch health insurers. A survey by the University of Lucerne, which was published at the beginning of September, shows this: Nine out of ten people in Switzerland are paying a higher premium this year than last year. The survey was conducted among 1009 people between June 4 and 12.

Although many feel the burden of health insurance premiums is high, just under a third of those insured have not done anything about it. One in five stated that they had thought about switching. However, only five percent of respondents who will have to pay a higher premium in 2024 have actually switched insurers. Eight percent also changed their policy within the same insurer.

The current round of premiums is also only prompting a few policyholders to switch insurers. Between July 31 and September 11, the comparison platform Hello Safe asked 949 people whether they were considering switching. Almost two thirds of respondents (62.6%) do not intend to change their health insurer.
