A dog owner was attacked and seriously injured by suckler cows on a pasture in Tarasp GR on Wednesday. Her three dogs were not on a lead despite the signalling and startled the herd of cows. They eventually brought the woman down, who was then flown by Rega to hospital in Chur.

The 55-year-old was walking with her three small dogs in the Lai Nair area when the hiking trail led her into a large fenced pasture of suckler cows. Despite a recommendation at the entrance to the pasture to keep dogs on a leash, the dogs jumped freely into the middle of the herd, said a spokesman for the cantonal police of Graubünden at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.

The woman wanted to catch her dogs and also ran towards the cows. After catching one of her dogs, she fled. However, the startled cows brought her down and only turned away from her when she lay motionless.

Other hikers then alerted the rescue services. A Rega crew finally flew the seriously injured woman to Chur. The uninjured dogs are in the care of the dog owner's husband, the spokesperson continued. The cows were not injured either.
