Despite the night-time drone attacks on Kiev, President Alain Berset's visit to the Ukrainian capital on Saturday proceeded normally. There was no noticeable nervousness, reported a journalist from the Keystone-SDA news agency on site.

It is "business as usual", said a Ukrainian employee of the Swiss embassy accompanying the Swiss delegation. The summit on food security and the talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky could also be held as planned, with the usual strict security precautions.

According to Ukrainian reports, Kiev was hit by the strongest drone attack since the outbreak of war in February last year on Saturday night. According to the Ukrainian army, 71 Russian Shahed drones were shot down. Five people, including a child, were injured, local authorities reported.

The drone attacks had ended before Berset's arrival. In the morning, the President of the Swiss Confederation paid tribute to the victims of the Russian massacre of spring 2022 in the Kiev suburb of Butsha. Berset then commemorated the Holodomor famine, which claimed several million victims in the then Soviet Ukraine from 1931 to 1933.
