Emergency forces from Switzerland take part in EU large-scale exercise “Magnitude”

Emergency services from Switzerland took part in the European Union's large-scale earthquake exercise "Magnitude" last week. It took place in the German region of North Baden and simulated a magnitude 6.9 earthquake.
As announced by the Federal Office for Civil Protection (Babs) on Monday, Switzerland took part in the exercise with three operational components of the rescue chain. The Swiss delegation reportedly comprised 23 people from the Babs and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
In addition to the Swiss units, emergency services from Germany, France, Austria and Greece were also involved, the report continued. Together, they trained in the rescue and care of buried victims, the reconstruction of critical infrastructure and dealing with chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear hazards.
According to Babs, a total of around 1000 people took part in the exercise. It lasted from October 24 to 26.
