Among the nominees for the 82nd Golden Globes, the cross-genre musical "Emilia Pérez", the epic "The Brutalist" and the Vatican-set film "Conclave" by Austrian-Swiss director Edward Berger dominate. This was announced on Monday.
With a total of ten nominations, "Emilia Pérez" is in the running for a Golden Globe - after the musical by French director Jacques Augdiard won the European Film Awards in Lucerne on Saturday night. The film is one of six nominees in the comedy and musical category.
"The Brutalist" by US director Brady Corbet received seven nominations, landing it in second place. The fictional biopic is nominated in the coveted drama category. The film is about Hungarian architect László Toth, who flees to the USA after the Second World War and is commissioned by a local tycoon to construct a modernist building. The film will be released in Swiss-German cinemas at the end of January.
Berger on the road to success again
In third place with six nominations is "Conclave" by Austrian-Swiss director Edward Berger. The Vatican thriller is also one of six candidates in the top category "Best Drama". This means Berger is once again on course for success in Hollywood, having been nominated for nine Oscars in 2023 with "Nothing New in the West" and winning four of them.
The Bob Dylan biopic "A Complete Unknown", the science fiction spectacle "Dune: Part Two", the literary adaptation "Nickel Boys" and the 1972 thriller "September 5" were also nominated in the best drama film category.
In the race for the best musical or comedy film, "Emilia Pérez" is competing with the crazy romance "Anora", the love triangle "Challengers", the family drama "A Real Pain", the body horror satire "The Substance" and the fantasy thriller "Wicked".
The drama "The Seeds of the Sacred Fig Tree" is in the running for a Golden Globe in the "Best Non-English Language Film" category. The director is Mohammad Rasoulof, an Iranian who fled to Germany and shot the film secretly in his home country. Germany has also submitted "The Seed of the Sacred Fig Tree" for the 2025 Oscars.
