Several hundred people gathered on the Bundesplatz in Bern on Saturday to demonstrate for the rights of Eritreans critical of the regime in Switzerland. They wanted to draw attention to their concerns with a procession through the city.

Opposition members in Switzerland must be better protected from the Eritrean regime, they demanded. In addition, Switzerland should not allow any deportations, neither to Eritrea nor to Rwanda or other countries. The demonstration was also directed against racism and hate speech in Swiss politics.

A Keystone-SDA correspondent reported that a large police presence was deployed around the Bundesplatz. In recent months, pro-government and opposition Eritreans have clashed several times in Switzerland.
