The Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology in Zurich and Lausanne have founded a new joint institute for the development of artificial intelligence (AI). The Swiss National AI Institute (SNAI) is to develop the first Swiss AI language model.
This was announced by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH Zurich) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) on Thursday. With the new institute, the two universities want to advance AI research on a large scale.
"SNAI will address the opportunities and challenges of AI of national importance, which require the collaboration of many researchers in our country," Pierre Dillenbourg from EPFL was quoted as saying in the press release. In addition to developing new AI models, the National AI Institute will also train AI specialists.
