EU leaders take part in Ukraine peace conference on Bürgenstock

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU Council President Charles Michel take part in the Ukraine Peace Conference in mid-June on the Bürgenstock in Nidwalden.
Von der Leyen wrote on the online platform X that she had spoken to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday to mark Europe Day. Europe is in the hearts of Ukrainians and soon "a free Ukraine will be part of our Union", said von der Leyen. EU Council President Michel called on all world leaders to support Switzerland's peace efforts.
The Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris and Moldovan President Maia Sandu have also announced their participation in the conference on the Bürgenstock on June 15 and 16.
Of the two religious representatives invited, the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew, has also announced his participation, according to a message from the Ukrainian president on X on Friday. The Vatican, on the other hand, has not yet announced its decision.
Scholz, Meloni, Sánchez, Duda
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Polish President Andrzej Duda, among others, have already announced their attendance. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and the Finnish and Latvian presidents, Alexander Stubb and Edgars Rinkevics, also want to come to the Bürgenstock.
The Federal Council announced on 2 May that it had invited more than 160 delegations to this conference, including members of the G7, the G20, the BRICS group of countries (including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), numerous other countries from all continents as well as the EU, three international organizations (UN, OSCE and Council of Europe) and two representatives from the religious world.
The final list of participating countries will be published shortly before the start of the conference.
