EU member states discuss negotiating mandate for the first time

Progress is being made: On Wednesday, the EU member states discussed the EU Commission's mandate for negotiations with Switzerland for the first time. The EU Commission presented its draft mandate to the member states in detail and answered relevant questions.
On the Swiss side, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council (FAC-N) discussed the guidelines of the draft mandate in the presence of Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis at the beginning of the week.
The Federal Council presented these on December 15. Five days later, the EU Commission published its draft negotiating mandate. The declared aim on both the Swiss and EU side is to be able to start negotiations in two to three months.
