Euroairport Basel-Mulhouse was closed for several hours on Sunday following a bomb threat. The terminal was evacuated following the early morning threat. A police operation was then launched.

Flight operations were temporarily suspended completely. Access to the airport was also no longer possible from shortly before six in the morning. Shortly after eleven o'clock, the prefecture of the French department of Haut-Rhin gave the all-clear on the X short message service. There was no danger to staff or passengers.

There were seven flight cancellations and two flight detour, as the airport management announced on request. Around 400 passengers were affected by these cancellations and detour. Between 150 and 200 people had to be evacuated from the terminal.

After the alert was lifted, the airport management gradually resumed flight operations. Passengers were asked to contact their airline for information about their flight.

Fifth bomb alert in Basel

Last October, there were four false bomb threats at Euroairport within seven days. The airport, which is located on French territory, had to be temporarily evacuated on each occasion.

Numerous bomb threats also led to evacuations at other airports in France last year. Threats were made after the Hamas attack in Israel on October 7 and the murder of teacher Dominique Bernard on October 13 at a high school in Arras, France.

According to the AFP news agency, several arrests have been made in connection with these bomb threats. On Thursday, a 13-year-old was arrested whom police suspect of being behind hundreds of the bomb threats that have kept France on tenterhooks since the fall.
