Sociologist Marylène Lieber has studied around 630 cases of sexual violence in Geneva. She calls for better harmonisation of the support services for victims in Switzerland. It is difficult for victims to know who to turn to for help, such as their doctor, hospital, victim support, a women's organisation or the police. Often victims have to go through a long process between different services, which forces them to repeat their story multiple times, leading to secondary victimisation. Harmonising the support services would give victims the feeling of being heard. However, this depends on the financial resources available.
