According to Andrea Beffa, flight and accommodation prices in tourism have peaked this year. "There may still be a price jump of five or even ten percent here and there," said the Managing Director of the Swiss Travel Association SRV.
The desire to travel is increasing despite high prices. "The latest surveys show that people are prepared to spend ten to 20 percent more on travel than in the previous year," says Beffa in an interview with the SonntagsZeitung. "If you have to watch your wallet, you'd rather travel less often than compromise on quality."
The travel budget can be saved by booking early, said Beffa. "Anyone who has booked their summer or even fall vacation by March can save a good chunk of money." Traveling in the low season is also cheaper. "After all, trips are often cheaper if you don't book from Saturday to Saturday, but arrive and depart on a weekday."
Although there are now fewer physical travel agencies than before, the industry is not doing badly, says Beffa. Advice has shifted to chats and video advice. "Our surveys show that every fourth booking is generated via travel agencies and their various booking channels, which corresponds to a turnover of around CHF 2.5 billion."
